The initial findings from singer Wheesung‘s autopsy have come back with an “undetermined cause of death.”
On the 12th, the National Forensic Service (NFS) delivered the preliminary verbal opinion of “cause of death unknown” to the Seoul Gwangjin Police Station. An NFS official explained, “It’s more of a postponement of determining the cause,” adding, “There are cases where the cause of death can be immediately determined through autopsy, but in this case, a conclusion can only be reached after compiling the results of detailed examinations.”
On the 11th, Chosun Ilbo reported that a syringe was found near Wheesung’s body, which was discovered deceased in his home on the 10th.
A police official stated, “Because there is no external trauma, it will take time to determine the exact cause of death,” adding, “Regarding the circumstances of drug use, we need to test what kind of substance it was and whether it was enough to cause death.” The detailed examination results are expected to take up to two more weeks.
As sleep-inducing medication was found at the scene when Wheesung’s family reported the incident, police plan to investigate the distribution route of the drugs. A police official said, “Regardless of the cause of death, we will examine how these drugs were distributed and whether there was any illegality.” In relation to this, the NFS is also conducting detailed analyses based on evidence from the scene to determine if any narcotics were involved.
