Coupang Play’s latest series Newtopia, starring Park Jung Min and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo, is making waves globally, shattering viewership records and earning acclaim for its fresh take on the zombie genre.
The series, which follows a soldier and his girlfriend’s journey across zombie-infested Seoul to reach each other, has captured international audiences since its global premiere on February 7th, reaching viewers in over 240 countries.
The show’s unique blend of romance and undead action has struck a chord with critics and audiences alike. On IMDB, 90 out of approximately 100 reviews awarded the series a perfect 10-point score. It also saw lavish comments on Rotten Tomatoes, calling it “the best zombie series of all time and series of the year.” Other notable comments include “hooked after just two episodes,” “the combination of comedy and zombies is fresh and entertaining,” and “the backdrop, visual effects, and direction are so dynamic that you can’t take your eyes off the screen.”

The show’s popularity is reflected in its impressive streaming performance on Prime Video. According to FlixPatrol, an OTT content ranking site, Newtopia has claimed the #1 spot in six countries including Indonesia, Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand. It has also reached the Top 5 in 39 countries, including Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Mongolia, Mexico, Peru, and Egypt, cementing its status as a global “zom-com” phenomenon.
