Kim Hye Ja and Son Suk Ku are set to portray an unconventional couple in JTBC’s upcoming weekend drama Heavenly Ever After, a supernatural romance about an 80-year-old woman who reunites with her husband who looks so much younger in heaven.
The series follows Lee Hae Sook (Kim Hye Ja), who arrives in heaven at age 80 only to find her husband Ko Nak Jun (Son Suk Ku) has been transformed into his younger self. The unique premise reunites director Kim Seok Yoon, known for hits like Behind Your Touch and The Light in Your Eyes, with writers Lee Nam Gyu and Kim Soo Jin. The stellar cast also includes Han Ji Min, Lee Jung Eun, and more, adding to the anticipation.
Kim Hye Ja, who won the Grand Prize at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards for The Light in Your Eyes, plays Lee Hae Sook, an octogenarian who became her family’s backbone following her husband’s accident. She uniquely maintains her elderly appearance in heaven, unlike others who revert to their youth.
Son Suk Ku portrays Ko Nak Jun, a devoted husband who serves as heaven’s mailman delivering wish letters from the earth. After passing before his wife, he builds a beautiful house in heaven awaiting her arrival. However, their reunion takes an unexpected turn when his 30-something self meets his 80-year-old wife.
Son, who sparked the “Mr. Gu phenomenon” with My Liberation Notes, reunites with director Kim Seok Yoon after three years. During a recent appearance on JTBC’s Please Take Care of My Refrigerator 2, the actor revealed he joined the project at Kim Hye Ja’s personal request, raising curiosity about their on-screen chemistry.
Heavenly Ever After is scheduled to premiere this April on JTBC.
