NewJeans has escalated their dispute with ADOR and HYBE by retaining one of South Korea’s prestigious law firms, Shin & Kim LLC, as announced through their newly created Instagram account “jeanzforfree” on January 23rd.
The quintet—consisting of Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—dropped a bombshell statement addressing the ongoing conflict with their management companies. “While ADOR and HYBE publicly ask us to return, behind closed doors they continue to harass and attack us just as before,” the members revealed. “Recently, they’ve even attempted to secretly meet some of our parents, trying to persuade them and create discord among us.”
The group didn’t pull any punches in their statement: “Instead of attempting to disparage and divide us through cowardly methods behind the scenes, or engaging in media play with false information, we would prefer to settle this matter fairly and truthfully in court.”
The members expressed their initial desire for an amicable resolution: “Even after the termination of our exclusive contract, we wanted to complete our remaining schedules and contracts without conflict, hoping to prevent any harm to industry professionals.” They added, “Seeing ADOR and HYBE’s unwillingness to cooperate with these intentions and their inappropriate methods causing damage to us and others, we decided we could no longer remain silent.”
The group emphasized their determination for legal recourse, stating, “We intend to fight proudly in court to clearly expose ADOR and HYBE’s wrongdoings and reveal the truth.”
This development follows NewJeans’ headline-making press conference in November 2023, where they announced their intention to terminate their exclusive contract with ADOR. In response, ADOR filed for both a confirmation of contract validity and an injunction to preserve their agency status and prevent the members from entering into new advertising contracts.
