Song Joong Ki offered a candid glimpse into his married life with Katy Louise Saunders, playfully admitting he’s become completely devoted to his wife.
During his appearance on the YouTube show “Hello, This is Choi Hwa Jung” on the 26th, the actor couldn’t help but shower praise on his multilingual spouse.
The conversation kicked off with a discussion about olive oil in the salad dressing Choi Hwa Jung made, with Song revealing, “These days, I’m obsessed with olive oil and take a spoonful every morning. It’s supposed to be good for your health. I never did this before, but after meeting my wife and falling in love with Italian cuisine, meals feel incomplete without olive oil.” He added, “We use olive oil extracted from the olive trees at our home in Italy. It’s actually quite satisfying.”
The actor shared details about their living arrangements, sharing, “We have homes in Itaewon and in the Tuscan countryside outside Rome. Since my wife lived in Italy her whole life, I stay there with her when I’m not filming.”
He continued, “I’m studying Italian now. My kid is starting to speak Italian, and there are times when I can’t understand his words. I feel some pressure, so I’m studying. Conversely, my wife is learning Korean.” He praised his wife’s linguistic abilities, adding, “Her language skills are seriously impressive. She’s learning quickly and can even say things like ‘Mother, let’s eat’ to my mom—it’s not perfect but it’s really cute.”
The Vincenzo star revealed his wife’s strong emphasis on manners, “Despite me being Korean, she places more importance on etiquette and basic character than I do, so I often get scolded. Once, when my manager came to our house with something to discuss, I made him wait for 20 minutes. After he left, she gave me an earful like, ‘Who do you think you are to make someone wait?’ She really helps remind me of these basic courtesies.”
When host Choi Hwa Jung inquired about his wife’s cooking skills, Song caught himself mid-praise and laughed, “Do I sound too whipped? But I can’t help wanting to brag about her.”
He quickly added, “Her mother is Colombian so she knows Colombian cuisine, and her father is British so she can cook British food too. Having grown up in Italy, she also makes Italian food. She became interested in Korean cooking and it turns out her close friend in Italy is Korean, whose mother was a cooking school classmate of Chef Park Chan Il. That friend’s mother happily taught her Korean cooking. She learned all my favorites—abalone porridge, ceremonial rice, and soy sauce bean sprout bibimbap. I’m so grateful. All our friends say my wife is too good for me, and I know it too.”
Song then proudly highlighted his wife’s impressive linguistic repertoire, sharing, “She’s lived in Italy, sos he identifies herself as an Italian. But she speaks British English, Spanish, and French perfectly. Now she’s learning Korean. I’m jealous of her.”
