BTS’s Jin is collaborating with renowned chef and The Born Korea CEO Paik Jong Won to launch a new venture in the liquor business. Jin is the first BTS member to explore a personal business endeavor.
According to industry sources, on December 11th, Jin and Paik Jong Won co-invested in establishing the agricultural corporation Yesan Doga, which will debut its distilled liquor brand, IGIN, later this month. The drink is a traditional Korean spirit infused with the essence of Yesan, Paik’s hometown in South Chungcheong Province.
In addition to the distilled liquor, IGIN will feature ready-to-drink products, including IGIN Sweet Tonic and IGIN Sour Tonic. These beverages incorporate regional produce like Yesan apples, watermelons, and plums.
To bring this project to life, Jin and Paik founded the agricultural corporation “Jin’s Lamp” in December 2022, headquartered in Yesan County. The name “Jin’s Lamp” originates from a term Jin previously mentioned as the name he’d like to use for his studio. Jin’s Lamp will oversee the production of IGIN, while Yesan Doga, a subsidiary of The Born Korea, will handle distribution.
This collaboration is expected to make waves in the industry, as it pairs Jin, a member of BTS—the first Korean group to top the Billboard Hot 100—with Paik Jong Won, a trailblazer in South Korea’s culinary world.
Jin’s longstanding interest in traditional Korean drinks has been evident in various content. In the 2022 BTS YouTube show “SUCHWITA,” Jin and Paik Jong Won tasted and promoted traditional Korean liquor alongside master artisan Park Rok Dam. Jin has also shared his passion for liquor crafting by gifting his homemade creations to close friends, including fellow J-Hope, chef Lee Yeon Bok, and actor Park Seo Ham.
