With the release of Hidden Face (directed by Kim Dae Woo) just days away, Song Seung Heon sat down for an interview at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, on November 15th to discuss the film’s intense moments and how he approached filming its bold sex scenes.
When asked whether he felt pressure about the attention such scenes often draw, regardless of the storyline or message, Song replied, “It was the same during ‘Obsessed.’ If this wasn’t a Kim Dae Woo project, I don’t think I could have agreed to it in the first place.”
He continued, “The director’s past works speak for themselves. It’s never nudity for the sake of nudity—it always serves the story, and he conveys it in a way that makes sense. That gave me confidence and made it easier to approach these scenes.”
Song also emphasized Kim Dae Woo’s precise direction on set. “His guidance is extremely clear. I’ve heard stories from other sets where directors say, ‘Just do whatever, and we’ll figure it out in editing,’ but that’s never the case with him. He sets firm boundaries and doesn’t allow anything to cross the line. It’s because of him that I found the courage to take on this project.”
When asked about what kind of talk he had with co-star Park Ji Hyun, Song shared, “There wasn’t much we needed to discuss between ourselves. As long as we delivered what the director wanted, we were good. He didn’t give us room to stray.” Laughing, Song added, “Before shooting, he brought a male assistant director to demonstrate the scene, saying, ‘You’ll go from here to here, and that’s it.’ Watching that was harder than acting it out.”
Hidden Face follows Sung Jin (Song Seung Heon) as he searches for his missing fiancée Soo Yeon (Cho Yeo Jeong), only to cross paths with her junior colleague, Mi Joo (Park Ji Hyun). The thriller unfolds as Soo Yeon, thought to be gone, is revealed to be trapped in a hidden space, exposing dark secrets. The film is set for release on November 20th.
