Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin are stepping into the roles of a strained, loveless couple in MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama When the Phone Rings, which released its main poster on October 29th.
The poster hints at a couple steeped in mistrust and apprehension. Yoo plays Baek Sa Eon, and Chae plays Hong Hee Joo, and their characters are anything but comfortable in each other’s presence.
In the poster, the two share an uneasy gaze, with Sa Eon’s sharp eyes fixated on Hee Joo as he appears lost in thought, while Hee Joo looks away, her gaze distant and guarded. Another poster captures their tense separation even further: Sa Eon stands aloof, arms crossed against a wall, while Hee Joo sits alone on the bed.
Accompanying the images are lines that hint at the underlying drama: “I thought I knew you well,” and “But maybe there’s more to you than what I know,” adding layers of intrigue to the storyline.
When the Phone Rings is a romance-thriller based on a popular web novel, revolving around a couple in a marriage of convenience who receive a threatening phone call that sets the suspenseful tale in motion. Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin portray a business-like couple who barely exchange words despite their three-year marriage.
The production team teased, “What could have happened to two people who haven’t communicated emotionally in three years? Expect a thriller that’s anything but ordinary.”
When the Phone Rings premieres on November 22nd at 9:50 PM KST on MBC and will also be available on Netflix.
