During the fifth hearing on May 14th for actor Yoo Ah In, who faces charges of drug use, his prescribing physician testified that the actor had expressed severe depressive thoughts, including wanting to die or escape during filming.

The Seoul Central District Court’s 25th Criminal Division held the fifth hearing for Yoo Ah In and his acquaintance Choi regarding violations of the Narcotics Control Act, evidence tampering, and breaches of medical law.

Psychiatric doctors who had prescribed medical narcotics to Yoo Ah In were called to testify. Dr. A stated, “Yoo Ah In mentioned having trouble sleeping, chronic depression, heart palpitations when meeting people, shortness of breath, and panic symptoms. He sought treatment for these issues.”

When the prosecution asked Dr. A if Yoo Ah In had expressed a desire to die or escape during filming, the doctor confirmed, “Yes.”

Dr. A further explained, “When Yoo Ah In first visited, his depression, anxiety, and panic disorder were severe. He was very open about his internal struggles, which made the consultations longer compared to other celebrities.” When asked by Yoo Ah In’s lawyer if he was unaware Yoo Ah In was receiving sleep anesthetics from other hospitals before the issues arose, Dr. A responded, “Yes, I did not know.”

Before the hearing, when reporters asked Yoo Ah In if he still denied the charges, he replied, “It’s the same as what has been known so far. I’m sorry I can’t say much each time.”

Meanwhile, Yoo Ah In is accused of taking medical propofol 181 times from September 2020 to March 2022. He also faces charges for using multiple narcotics, including midazolam, ketamine, and marijuana, as well as illegally obtaining over 1,100 sleeping pills under another person’s name.
