Last year, YG Entertainment signed a big deal to keep BLACKPINK under their roof. According to a financial report released on March 22nd, the label spent a whopping 41.2 billion won (around $30.7 million USD) on these “intangible asset prepayment contracts.” These prepayments serve as a substantial down payment for BLACKPINK’s future work commitments.

YG Entertainment signed a group exclusive contract with all four members of BLACKPINK in December last year. Considering the $30.7 million down payment contract, it is estimated that the agency signed contracts worth tens of billions of won with each member of BLACKPINK. However, it is reported that the down payment for BLACKPINK members did not exceed 10 billion won (approximately $7.5 million USD) per person.

YG Entertainment responded to this by saying, “Last year, we signed with many other IPs other than BLACKPINK. We cannot disclose all the details of the contract, but the amount cannot be seen as the contract amount for BLACKPINK alone.”

While BLACKPINK has reunited with YG Entertainment for group activities, all four members have chosen to go solo. Jennie, Lisa, and Jisoo have each set up their own personal agencies, Odd Atelier, Lloud, and BLISSOO, respectively, and Rosé is also leaving YG to pursue solo activities.

Given that YG has poured a large sum of money into group activities rather than individual activities, it is expected that there will be extensive BLACKPINK activities in the future.
