Kim Sae Ron had her first trial today for DUI.
The first trial of Kim Sae Ron, who was charged with violating the Road Traffic Act, took place at the Seoul Central District Court on Wednesday. Passenger A, who was charged with aiding her DUI, was present at the trial.
On this day, the prosecution demanded that the actress be fined 20 million won (about $15K). The prosecutor stated, “Kim caused an accident while driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.2 percent and fled the scene without taking any action.” However, they added, “Please take into consideration that she confessed to her crime and reached an agreement with the victims.” As for passenger A, the prosecution demanded a fine of 5 million won (about $3.8K).
Kim Sae Ron’s attorney appealed, saying, “She deeply regrets her crime. She has been avoiding drinking as much as possible and has also sold her car.” Kim Sae Ron herself pleaded, “This will never happen again. I’m truly sorry. I’m reflecting on what I’ve done.” After the trial, she repeated the words “I’m sorry” in front of reporters who asked her how she felt.
In May of last year, Kim Sae Ron crashed into a transformer box three times while driving under the influence. At the time, her blood alcohol level was 0.2 percent, which is high enough to have her license revoked. The worst part was that the crash caused a power outage that affected local businesses and facilities. Afterward, Kim Sae Ron was spotted working part-time at a cafe to pay for the damage she caused.
