The November 17th broadcast of KBS’ Entertainment Company Live revealed the list of celebrities who were involved in drug abuse.
In September 2022, Don Spike was arrested on charges of possession of methamphetamine. A lawyer specialized in drug-related cases shared his insight that he may face actual prison time this time as it’s not his first offense on this charge.
BIGBANG’s T.O.P was accused of smoking marijuana with an idol trainee in 2016. Back then, the issue sparked controversy as he was fulfilling his duty in the military. He was transferred to a hospital as he overdosed on tranquilizers and was sentenced to 10 months in prison with two years of probation.
In 2019, Park Yoo Chun was sentenced to 10 months in jail with two years of probation for drug abuse as his test came out positive. At that time, his case sparked controversy as he first denied using illegal substances. Jung Suk Won was also sentenced to 10 months in prison with two years of probation for consuming illegal drugs at a club in Australia in 2018.
Ju Ji Hoon also reportedly abused an illegal psychiatric medicine in 2009. Although the drug test result came out negative at the time, he admitted that he abused drugs and was sentenced to six months in prison with a one-year probation. He later revealed in an interview that he didn’t want to lie about what he had done.
According to data from the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office of the Republic of Korea this year, 17 narcotic crimes were reported from 2017 to 2021 in the entertainment industry.
