KBS’ Bloody Heart (5/2)

Following The King’s Affection and The Red Sleeve, South Korean television is producing yet another period drama depicting affairs of court romance. Bloody Heart is a fictional historical drama about a bloody political romance between a king named Lee Tae, who wants to be an absolute monarch and Yoo Jung, a medieval woman who was way ahead of her time. The released teaser amped up the excitement of drama fans with its refined cinematography and a star-studded cast including Jang Hyuk, Lee Joon and Kang Hanna. The news of their participation made their fans weave new dreams wanting to see their sweet chemistry as it’s Lee Joon’s first historical series and Kang Hanna’s first title role. Now all eyes are on whether this new drama will make it up for the rating fall of Crazy Love.

 

ENA’s There Is No Koo Pill Soo (literal title) (5/4)

This will be Yoon Doo Joon’s first acting project after his military discharge. The story is about Koo Pil Soo (played by Kwak Do Won), the owner of a chicken restaurant who has a family but no house to live in, and a young businessman named Jeong Seok (Yoon Doo Joon) who has goods but does not have money to start a business. The two will embark on an exciting journey to success as they come across each other. One of the key takeaways of this drama will be the sweet bromance between the two leads.

 

Netflix’s The Sound of Magic (5/6)

Netflix presents its third South Korean original series – The Sound of Magic. The beautiful fantasy music drama tells the story of high school students Yoon Ah Yi, who is forced to grow up after facing the harsh realities of life, and Na Il Deung, who feels immense pressure to bring his dreams to life. The tale unravels after the pair encounters the enigmatic yet mystical magician Rieul. The upcoming drama is based on a webtoon of the same name, which won rave reviews for its magical and heartwarming story. Rarely seen in Korean TV shows, the TV adaptation is rendered into a musical dramatic form to better portray the emotions of each character. Ji Chang Wook, who have vast experience in musical theater and the theatrical music industry, as well as Choi Sung Eun and Hwang In Yeop, will be participating in recording various music tracks for the upcoming drama.

 

SBS’ Woori the Virgin (5/9)

Woori the Virgin is a South Korean remake of the American TV series Jane the Virgin. The drama is about a woman who wishes to maintain her chastity before marriage but ends up getting pregnant by accident. Many are expecting to see the new character that Im Soo Hyang is about to bring us, as she will be playing the counterpart of Gina Rodriguez in Jane the Virgin. Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) actor Sung Hoon will be playing Raphael, the biological father of Woori’s child she comes to bear. Shin Dong Wook will be joining them to introduce us to a dramatic love triangle as Woori’s faithful boyfriend named Lee Kang Jae.

 

TVING’s Rose Mansion (literal title) (5/13)

Rose Mansion is a mystery thriller in which Gina (Lim Ji Yeon) arrives at a house she does not want to return to, as it’s where her sister went missing. While on the hunt for suspicious neighbors, she and detective Min Soo (Yoon Kyun Sang) discover an unexpected truth. What could be the truth that Gina face in a situation where she could trust no one? Suspicious neighbors who hide their greed behind ordinary appearances and the secrets that are revealed are expected to provide intense suspense.

 

Kakao TV’s Marriage White Paper (5/23)

There is a saying that love is a fantasy and marriage is a reality. Perhaps that’s why most romance dramas focus on telling stories of the early stages of love. However, this drama offers a fresh take on love by portraying a relatable romance about a couple in their 30s preparing for marriage. From the meeting between the families to marriage preparations and finding a house, the soon-to-be-married couple will deal with very realistic topics. Lee Jin Wook and Lee Yeon Hee will play Jun Hyung and Na Eun, a couple 2 years into their relationship preparing for marriage. Will this couple be able to walk down the aisle without any trouble?

 

Disney Plus’ Kiss Sixth Sense (5/25)

Disney Plus has released numerous dramas so far like Rookie Cops, Grid and Soundtrack #1, but none of them has met their initial goals of viewership success. Will this upcoming rom-com series be the killer content that will get everybody to subscribe to Disney Plus? Based on a popular webtoon of the same name, Kiss Sixth Sense is about a woman named Hong Ye Sul who can see the future when she kisses someone. One day, she accidentally kisses her boss Cha Min Hoo, and sees them in bed together in the future. Seo Ji Hye and Yoon Kye Sang will play the two leads with secret abilities who will invite us to a hot, sensual romance.

 

tvN Eve (5/25)

Seo Ye Ji, who took a brief hiatus due to her recent scandal surrounding her private life, is gearing up for her long-awaited drama comeback. Eve is a romance drama that deals with the inside story of a super-rich family‘s $1.7 billion divorce lawsuit that shocks the entire nation. Seo Ye Ji stars as Lee Ra El, who is at the center of the unbelievably expensive divorce lawsuit. Park Byung Eun, Lee Sang Yeop and Yoo Sun will join her in the upcoming drama. Now, all eyes are on whether she will be able to make a successful drama comeback.

 

MBC’s Doctor Lawyer (5/27)

Doctor Lawyer is set to premiere on MBC following the wrap of Tomorrow. It revolves around a genius surgeon who becomes a medical malpractice lawyer five years after losing everything due to being framed. So Ji Sub will make his long-awaited drama return as Han Yi Han in this series after a four-year hiatus. Joining him are Shin Sung Rok and Im Soo Hyang, who will take on the roles of a lobbying and investment firm CEO and a prosecutor from the Medical Crimes Department. However, despite having a fixed date for its premiere, the production is currently experiencing turbulence as MBC and SBS are in conflict due to SBS’ plans to air Im Soo Hyang’s upcoming drama Woori the Virgin �in May. MBC is in a difficult position as its currently airing drama Tomorrow has failed to attract viewers, leaving Doctor Lawyer as its only potentially winning ticket.
