The 8 Singers Who Have Earned the Highest Music Royalties in South Korea

KBS 2TV’s Entertainment Company Live introduced the list of ‘The Top 8 Singers Who Have Earned the Highest Royalties in South Korea’ on the 11th.

The eighth-place went to IU. IU’s “Celebrity” recorded 170 million views on Youtube last year. Considering that it generates 1 KRW (0.08 cent) per view count, it means that the song has allowed her to earn more than 170 million KRW ($137,018). Reports say that she owns the publishing rights to 72 songs of hers.

Jang Beom June landed in seventh place. He previously revealed that he had made a whopping 4.6 billion KRW ($3.7 million) from his song “Cherry Blossom Ending.” His other song, “Your Shampoo Scent In The Flowers,” made him over 300 million KRW ($241,683) with 300 million streams on various music platforms.

G-Dragon came in at No. 6. The rapper had the highest loyalty earnings in 2017 and 2018. He makes about 1 billion KRW ($805,309) per year only with his royalty earnings. Currently, he owns the publishing rights to 174 songs.

Code Kunst ranked fifth. He is one of the highest-paid hip-hop musicians in South Korea. He once appeared on a variety show and revealed that his monthly earnings could easily buy him a new Mercedes. He has a total of 251 songs which he owns copyrights to.

Fourth place went to the famous lyricist Kim Eana. She has a total of 518 songs which she owns the publishing rights. Lim Young Woong’s “Trust In Me,” in which she wrote the lyrics, has generated about 520 million KRW ($418,758).

In third place was singer-songwriter Yoon Jong Shin. He is known to have earned about 3 billion KRW ($2.43 million) just by writing the lyrics to his debut song, “Like It.” He has copyrighted a total of 563 songs. In second place went to J.Y.P. (also known as Park Jin Young), with 639 copyrighted tracks.

Composer and producer Bang Si Hyuk topped the list. He has been known as one of the most renowned producers and has written various songs such as g.o.d’s “I Need You,” Baek Ji Young’s “Like Being Hit by a Bullet,” 2AM’s “Can’t Let You Go Even If I Die,” and more. He has also been known to have over 740 songs under his copyright as he has been a producer, lyricist, and composer to many BTS songs.
