NCT’s Mark, Doyoung, and Johnny came under fire for humming a song after hearing the earthquake alert during a live broadcast. All three members personally apologized for their inappropriate reactions.
On the afternoon of the 14th, NCT members hosted a live broadcast, “NCT ‘Universe’ Countdown Live,” for their upcoming album. At around 5:19 PM KST, some staff members received an emergency alert on their phones. The members first thought of it as COVID-19 related alert, but it turned out to be a warning of a magnitude 5.3 earthquake in Jeju Island.
After hearing the news, Mark, Johnny, and Doyoung hummed “Earthquake,” a track from their new album, causing a stir. Some even tried to dance to the song, only to be stopped by other members.
Soon after the broadcast, the three idols took Instagram Story to post their apologies.
Mark wrote, “I am really sorry for misjudging the situation and for my careless and frivolous behavior. I will reflect deeply on myself and work hard never to show behavior like this again.”
Johnny wrote, “I am very sorry for my rash actions during the comeback live broadcast. In the future, I will be more careful about my thoughts and actions. I am really sorry. I want to apologize once again to everyone who may have felt uncomfortable after seeing my actions.”
Doyoung wrote, “I made a rash decision without properly recognizing the situation during today’s comeback live broadcast. I want to apologize to those who were hurt and felt uncomfortable because of my fatuous actions and words. This was entirely my mistake, so I apologize again without excuses.”
