The Penthouse 3 got criticized for using the controversial footage in the September 3rd episode when �Hera Palace’s collapsed in the drama. In the 13th episode, the newscaster reported the destruction of Hera Palace and showed footage of the aftermath of the collapse. However, the footage used in the drama scene was real footage from the 2021 Gwangju building collapse accident and the 2017 Pohang earthquake. Immediately after the broadcast, the show came heavily under fire, and the network canceled the VOD services for the episode.
The production team issued an apology through an official statement. “We sincerely apologize to the victims and families of the Gwangju building collapse accident and the Pohang earthquake as well as to all the viewers,” they wrote. “We will do our best to prevent recurrence by investigating why such footage was used through an internal investigation.”
