Tale of the Nine-Tailed star Lee Dong Wook personally explained the charm of a male gumiho (nine-tailed fox), who have lived for more than a thousand years.
Set to premiere on Oct. 7, Tale of the Nine-Tailed is a fascinating and brutal fantasy action romance drama between the gumiho, who settled in the city, and the producer, who chases him.
In the drama, Lee Dong Wook plays the role of Lee Yeon, who once ruled as a living god of the Baekdudaegan Mountain but now lives in the city in a human form. By taking on the role who travels between this world and the underworld while working as a judge who punishes monsters that disturb the world of the living, Lee will present a whole new side of him. In this regard, let’s listen to how Lee described his character, Lee Yeon.
About his perfect visuals that resemble a gumiho, Lee expressed gratitude by saying, “I’m so grateful that people think the character gumiho matches me visually.” He then chose “the fact that it’s not just a fantasy, but a mixed genre” as the reason he joined drama Tale of the Nine-Tailed, and added, “The fresh setting of a male gumiho was attractive to me.”
Lee also introduced Lee Yeon as “a character who holds a lot of pain,” and explained, “He pretends like nothing’s wrong outwardly, and I wanted to express the emotions of Lee Yeon, who has been in pain for a long time inwardly.”
Not only did the actor practice in action school from the preparation stage to perfect Lee Yeon’s charisma, but he also showed his determination to rely fully on the martial arts team and put more energy into detailed action sequences.
He dyed his hair to red-brown color to match the beautiful visual of gumiho Lee Yeon, and also emphasized a sophisticated image that breaks away from the “traditional” gumiho by adding point accessories to achromatic-toned clothes.
Lee also expressed his feelings about his fellow actors. About Jo Bo Ah, he said, “She always gives good vitality at the scene with her positive and bright energy. She is open-minded, so I’m grateful that we can discuss everything without worries.”
As for Kim Bum, who stands at the opposing side, Lee said, “I’ve known him for a long time, so I’m comfortable around him and we can show natural chemistry. He’s an amazing friend who always tries his best and who is always prepared, so I’ve got a lot to learn about,” showing off the friendly chemistry present at the scene.
Lastly, he added, “I hope you can enjoy our drama comfortably by entering into the fantasy world for a while. We have a variety of things to show you, so I hope you enjoy them.”
