Director Jo Sung Hee and actors of blockbuster Space Sweepers showed their pride in their work.

At an online press conference for the movie Space Sweepers, Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri chose the fact that Space Sweepers is Korea’s first space SF movie as the reason they decided to hop on The Victory.

Song Joong Ki said, “I heard about Space Sweepers from the director when we worked on A Werewolf Boy, but I never knew it was going to be about space junk. After hearing about it, it sounded even more interesting.”

“I was particularly attracted to the fact that we are challenging the space SF in Korea. I’ve worked with the director once, so I know about his endless ideas and cartoon-like colors. I wondered what it would be like when those colors met with space SF,” he added.

Kim Tae Ri said, “When I read the script, I was very attracted to Captain Jang. It’s the first time for a woman to wear a captain’s title.” She then continued, “I also had high expectations about what I would look like if I became a part of Korea’s first space movie.”

Director Jo Sung Hee said, “Space Sweepers is based more on imaginations rather than background research. I think people in this room are not much different from the characters. They worry about loan interest and utility bills. It tells the story of ordinary Koreans flying in spaceships, not heroes in superpowers suits.”

Space Sweepers, set in the year 2092, is about the crew of space junk collector ship The Victory jumping into a dangerous deal after discovering a humanoid robot named Dorothy that’s known to be a weapon of mass destruction. It will be released on September 23.
