From Hwasa to Yoon Do Joon – Members of K-POP Groups Who Are Starting/Resuming Their Solo Careers

Members of idol groups like MAMAMOO’s Hwasa and Highlight’s Yoon Do Joon are starting their solo activities. They are filling up the K-POP scene with their presence as much as the groups.

First of all, Hwasa is showing off her power as a solo artist. She released her first mini-album, Maria, on June 29 and received both good grades and positive reviews, once again establishing herself as “Queen Hwasa.” The title track “Maria” is a song that soothes the wounds caused by the ruthless world in Hwasa’s own way, and she wrote the lyrics herself. The song is maintaining its top spot in major music charts for days, and is also performing well on iTunes and Billboard.

VIXX’s Ken released a digital single Counting One by One on the afternoon of July 4. In “Counting One by One,” the last song Ken released before joining the army, Ken expressed his gratitude for precious memories and his desire for reunion by participating in the lyrics himself. Earlier, he proved his presence as a next-generation vocalist when he released his first solo album in May and performed the title track “Just for a moment.”

EXID’s Solji will also release her single album Rains again twelve years after her single album As the first feeling, released in 2008. This is Solji’s first album since settling in a new label, C-JeS Entertainment. The new song “Rains again” sings about feelings at the end of a time when you erase your loved one after a breakup.

Apink’s Jung Eun Ji will make a solo comeback with her fourth mini-album Simple on July 15. This is her first comeback as a solo artist in a year and nine months since Hyehwa. Jung Eun Ji wrote the entire album, and talented lyricists, including Sunwoo Jung Ah, 10CM, So Soo Bin and Lee Hyun Young, helped out. The title track “Away,” written while thinking about busy people and herself, expresses the desire to leave for somewhere, looking back on the emptiness of busy daily lives.
