Chinese-Canadian pop star Kris Wu has been sent to jail for sexually assaulting multiple women.
According to Chinese media reports, the singer was arrested and jailed in Chaoyang Detention Center on January 15th.
Kris is now waiting for the final sentence to be pronounced. Once his sentence gets finalized, he will be designated to prison and start his time there as an inmate. Local lawyers are anticipating a minimum of five years of jail time.
Beijing’s Chaoyang District court sentenced him to eleven and a half years in prison on charges of rape and a year and ten months for assembling a crowd to engage in promiscuous activities. The court also issued him with a deportation order after completing his prison term.
Kris Wu made his EXO debut in 2012, but he left the group in 2014 due to contractual issues with SM Entertainment. He then returned to China to pursue an acting career.
Wu was arrested in Beijing in July, after a Chinese girl publicly accused him of forcing her and other girls, some of whom were under the age of 18, to have sex with him. The alleged victim claimed that the number of victims exceeded eight, including two minors and herself.
