Wavve’s new original drama ONE: High School Heroes, based on the explosive Kakao Daum webtoon ONE that has garnered over 65 million views, has confirmed an exclusive May release on the platform.
ONE: High School Heroes follows the school’s top student Kim Ui Gyeom, who suffers under his father’s oppression, and Kang Yoon Gi, who aims to exploit Ui Gyeom’s natural fighting talent. Together, they form the masked vigilante group “High School Heroes” to unleash their pent-up anger and turn the school’s violence hierarchy upside down.
The teaser poster captures the striking silhouettes of Kim Ui Gyeom (Lee Jung Ha) and Kang Yoon Gi (Kim Do Wan) after forming their vigilante alliance. The masked figures seen from behind heighten curiosity about the story that’s about to unfold.
Following Wavve’s biggest hit original series Weak Hero Class 1, this new high-octane school action drama is generating significant buzz with its creative universe that gained recognition as the winner of the “2020 Today’s Korean Comics Award.”
Rising star Lee Jung Ha, who shot to fame through the Disney Plus series Moving, takes on the role of transfer student Kim Ui Gyeom, who possesses extraordinary fighting abilities. The transformation of his character—from what seemed to be a mild-mannered, top-ranked model student to someone who discovers his fighting prowess and systematically takes down school bullies—will be portrayed with compelling momentum.
Joining him is Kim Do Wan, who has built a solid acting portfolio through works like My Roommate is a Gumiho and Doona!, playing Kang Yoon Gi. Yoon Gi discovers Ui Gyeom’s innate fighting talent and guides him into the world of combat with hidden motives.
Veteran actor Kim Sang Ho appears as Ui Gyeom’s father, Kim Seok Tae. Though he appears to be a successful medical equipment businessman and caring head of the family, he employs strict discipline to shape Ui Gyeom into a doctor. Kim Joo Ryeong turns into the mother Myung Da Bin, who gradually transforms as she tries to protect her son from her husband’s oppressive educational methods.
Director Lee Seong Tae, known for his distinctive directorial style in films such as By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture and Derailed, is handling both adaptation and direction, further heightening expectations. ONE: High School Heroes will be exclusively available on Wavve starting this May.
