Song Ji Hyo is set to make a surprise appearance in tvN’s drama 100 Days of Deception.

SpoTV News reported on October 19th that Song Ji Hyo will play the adoptive mother of Kim Tae Woong, also known as Hideo Sato (played by Park Jin Young), who mysteriously disappeared years ago.

100 Days of Deception is an espionage romance set in Gyeongseong during the Japanese colonial era. The story unfolds over 100 days as Lee Ga Kyung (Kim You Jung), a skilled pickpocket recruited to become a spy, crosses paths with Sato Hideo, an elite interpreter working for the Japanese Government-General of Korea.

Song Ji Hyo’s casting came as a surprise after viewers caught a glimpse of her in the drama’s fourth episode, which aired on October 18th. In a scene where Hideo recalls his adoptive mother, viewers hear a woman say, “Welcome back,” while only seeing her from behind. Some viewers quickly recognized Song Ji Hyo’s voice and began speculating that she would appear in the series.

One viewer commented, “Doesn’t the woman who is Ga Kyung’s biological mother and Tae Woong’s adoptive mother look like Song Ji Hyo? That voice sounds exactly like her.”

Hideo’s adoptive mother, whose name has not yet been revealed, is the Korean wife of Shinichi Sato (Jin Sun Kyu). She disappeared shortly after giving birth to their daughter. Hideo grew close to her after being adopted by Shinichi and has been secretly searching for her without his father’s knowledge.

The mystery surrounding her disappearance is also connected to a bank slip found in Lee Ga Kyung’s belongings, linking her story to the drama’s central plot.

Song Ji Hyo’s character is expected to play an important role in the unfolding mystery, leaving viewers eager to learn more about her disappearance and her connection to the main characters.

The production team told SpoTV News, “Please watch the upcoming episodes to find out more.” Song Ji Hyo’s appearance was kept so secret that her name was not even mentioned in the subtitles for the fourth episode.

Meanwhile, 100 Days of Deception has seen its viewership ratings climb with each episode. The drama premiered with a 5.3% rating, rose to 7.6% for its second episode, and reached 9.0% with its fourth episode. With Kim You Jung’s performance drawing attention and the series approaching the 10% mark, viewers are eager to see how Song Ji Hyo’s character will shape the story.
