Han Ga In has revealed that she seriously considered calling off her wedding to Youn Jung Hoon just two days before the ceremony.
Appearing on Sean’s YouTube channel on October 7th, Han opened up about her marriage while going for a run, recalling how uncertain she was about getting married at the time.
“When I was younger, I never thought I’d get married before 30,” she said. “I also thought I wanted to marry someone much older than me.”
Han Ga In explained that she had grown up feeling the absence of a father figure and wanted a partner who could make her feel protected. “I wanted someone at least eight years older who could embrace me warmly, almost like a father.”
She then revealed, “I don’t think I’ve ever talked about this anywhere, but even two days before the wedding, I said, ‘I’m not doing it. I can’t do this.'”
At the time, Youn Jung Hoon even came to her filming set to talk things through.
Han Ga In said her doubts grew after seeing Youn Jung Hoon spending time with friends who had flown in from the U.S. for the wedding.
“I was busy filming, and when I saw him hanging out with his friends and being all over the place, I thought, ‘If he’s like this after we get married, that’s going to be a problem,'” she recalled. “I told him, ‘Then I can’t get married. I can’t live like this.'”
Their very different daily routines also worried her. Han described herself as an extreme early riser and Youn Jung Hoon as a night owl.
“For him, 2 or 3 a.m. wasn’t that late, but to me it was the middle of the night,” she said. “I couldn’t understand how someone could stay out until that late.”
Despite those concerns, married life turned out very differently from what she expected.
Han Ga In said she and Youn Jung Hoon have barely had any major fights over roughly two decades of marriage. “In 20 years, I think we’ve had maybe three or four big arguments.”
She added that being so different may actually help. “Sometimes, the fact that we’re so different is why we don’t clash,” she said, explaining that neither tries to force the other to change.
Han Ga In and Youn Jung Hoonmarried in 2005 and have a daughter and a son together.
