A bereaved family member the late Kim Sae Ron has reportedly attempted suicide just days before the premiere of the actor’s posthumous film.
Newdaily reported that the family had originally planned to attend a special group screening of Before We Knew on March 14th at CGV Cheongdam Cine City. However, it was belatedly revealed that a family member had attempted to take their own life at home shortly before the event.
A close acquaintance of the family shared their distress, stating, “The family has only one wish: for Kim Soo Hyun to acknowledge the facts and offer a sincere apology to the deceased.”
The acquaintance further criticized the legal strategy of the other side. “Kim Soo Hyun and his legal team are causing irreparable pain by claiming the family is spreading false information with fabricated evidence,” they said. “We urge them to immediately stop blaming and insulting the bereaved family.”
Kim Sae Ron passed away on February 16th, 2025, at the age of 25. The following month, her family alleged that she had been in a relationship with Kim Soo Hyun for five years, starting in 2016, while she was still a minor.
Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team has consistently denied these claims, asserting the relationship only occurred between 2019 and 2020 after she reached adulthood. The dispute has now escalated into a massive legal battle. Kim Soo Hyun is suing the family for 12 billion won ($8 million), while the family has filed a counterclaim for defamation and violation of the Child Welfare Act. The legal battle between both sides is ongoing.
