Netflix has confirmed that its upcoming series The WONDERfools is still scheduled to premiere in the second quarter of the year.
Yesterday, the streaming platform addressed reports that the show’s press conference would take place on May 12th. Netflix responded that the exact release date and promotional schedule have not yet been finalized.
“We will share details about the release date and major events once they are finalized,” Netflix said in a statement. “As mentioned before during our ‘Next on Netflix’ event at the beginning of the year, the Q2 release remains unchanged.”
The WONDERfools is a comedic action adventure set in 1999, when apocalyptic fears were widespread. The story follows a group of unlikely locals who suddenly gain superpowers after an unexpected incident and must band together to protect the city of Haeseong from villains threatening its peace.
The series features a star-studded cast including Park Eun Bin, Cha Eun Woo, Kim Hae Sook, Choi Dae Hoon, Im Seong Jae, and Son Hyun Joo. If a press event does take place, it is expected to proceed without Cha Eun Woo, who is currently serving his mandatory military duty.
Separately, Cha Eun Woo was reportedly investigated last year by the Seoul Regional Tax Office over allegations of tax irregularities and was notified of additional tax payments exceeding 20 billion KRW (approx. 13.5 million USD).
His agency Fantagio addressed the situation in a statement. “We take the controversy involving our company and artist very seriously,” the agency said. “The matter is currently under review according to procedures by the tax authorities, and both the company and the artist are cooperating with the investigation within the necessary scope.”
