Netflix has locked December 19th as the global release date for The Great Flood, unveiling a haunting teaser poster for its upcoming sci-fi disaster blockbuster starring Kim Da Mi and Park Hae Soo.

The film, which made its debut at the 30th Busan International Film Festival in the “Korean Cinema Today – Special Premiere” section, has been generating buzz ahead of release. The Great Flood unfolds on Earth’s final day, submerged by catastrophic floods, where a handful of survivors fight desperately inside a waterlogged apartment building to preserve humanity’s last hope.

The released teaser poster shows a towering apartment complex completely underwater, resembling a city swallowed by the sea. In the center, the silhouettes of an adult and child embracing draw the eye, balancing fear and poignancy. The tagline, “On the day the world ends, only one choice remains for humanity,” underlines the film’s tension as humanity stares down the unimaginable.

Director Kim Byung Woo, acclaimed for The Terror Live and Take Point, is once again steering a tale of human resilience under extreme pressure. “This film doesn’t end with the disaster itself,” Kim explained. “The first idea was to begin with disaster as a genre, then expand into a story that could be as complex or as simple as life itself.”

With its apocalyptic scale and layered storytelling, The Great Flood aims to stand apart from conventional disaster spectacles. Bolstered by Kim Da Mi and Park Hae Soo’s emotionally charged performances, the film promises to pull audiences deep into its submerged world with an intensity that doesn’t let go.

The Great Flood will stream exclusively on Netflix worldwide beginning December 19th.
