ALLDAY PROJECT’s Annie is setting the record straight about how she made it to debut.
Appearing with fellow member Tarzan on the August 5th episode of YouTube talk show “Salon Drip 2,” Annie opened up about her trainee days.
She recalled her early love for K-pop, saying, “Whenever songs from 2NE1 or BIGBANG came on, I had to sing along—ever since Lollipop came out. And I always had to do CL’s part. I even bribed my little sister with chocolate to memorize the other members’ parts.”
But when she first told her parents she wanted to become a singer, they didn’t take her seriously. “They thought it was just a phase. I hated hearing that phrase—‘just a phase’—because I heard it so much whenever I said I wanted to sing,” she admitted.
Host Jang Do Yeon noted that many assumed Annie must have been scouted by a company because of her family background—the member of Shinsegae Group. Annie quickly shut that down: “No. I joined through an audition.”
At the time, Annie was studying abroad, which made traditional in-person training impossible. Instead, she joined The Black Label as a remote trainee, taking lessons via video calls and submitting weekly evaluation videos for feedback. “I trained like that for about four years,” she said. “When I came to Korea during school breaks, I’d go to the company every day to practice.”
Jang praised her determination, calling her “fierce in the best possible way.”
When asked about her family’s reaction to her debut, Annie said, “My younger sister told me, ‘Your face is everywhere now.’” Tarzan chimed in with his own family story: “My dad asked me, ‘So… can I quit my job now?’” prompting laughter from the set.
