Son Ye Jin is considering a return to television with CJ ENM Studios’ upcoming K-pop industry thriller Variety (literal title).

According to industry sources on February 11th, Son is reviewing an offer to star in the new series, though final confirmation is pending due to her preparations for the Netflix series Scandal. Her agency confirmed, “She has received the offer for the project,” adding that “she is currently reviewing the script.”

Variety promises to deliver a thrilling narrative set against the backdrop of the idol industry. While speculation has circulated about current idol group members taking leading roles, casting is ongoing among active and former idol-turned-actors. The production plans to create fictional groups that will mirror real K-pop acts.

Son’s potential character is reportedly inspired by former ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin, described as a charismatic and straightforward industry figure. The project combines director Kim Yong Hoon, known for global hits Beasts Clawing at Straws and Mask Girl, with CJ ENM Studios, the powerhouse behind hit projects like Decision to Leave and the Hospital Playlist series. Former IZ*ONE member Jo Yu Ri, who recently gained global recognition through Squid Game 2, is also being considered for a leading role.

A CJ ENM representative confirmed Son’s offer while cautioning, “As we’re still in early development stages, nothing is confirmed. Details including the programming and other casting decisions are yet to be determined.”

Meanwhile, Son Ye Jin is set to star alongside Ji Chang Wook in Netflix’s Scandal, a remake of the movie Untold Scandal. She has also completed filming Park Chan Wook’s new film No Other Choice, based on the novel The Ax, where she stars opposite Lee Byung Hun. This lineup marks Son’s full return across OTT series, film, and potentially TV series, showcasing her versatility through diverse genres and characters.
