TWICE member Jeongyeon is leaving JYP Entertainment.
Jeongyeon announced her new beginning on August 10th by sharing a handwritten letter with fans.
“I’m writing this letter because there is something I wanted to share with you today,” Jeongyeon wrote. “I have decided to leave JYP and begin a new chapter somewhere else after spending many years with the company since I was a teenager.”
She continued, “Leaving a familiar place was scary, but I was able to find the courage because I have members and ONCE who believe in me. I cannot fully express how grateful I am to my members, ONCE, and everyone at JYP who helped me grow.”
Jeongyeon also reassured fans that her departure from JYP would not affect her commitment to TWICE.
“There is one thing I really want to tell ONCE. Although I am moving to a new place and starting a new challenge, TWICE, which remains the biggest part of who I am, will continue to be something I protect and cherish as always,” she wrote. “Standing in front of ONCE as a member of TWICE will always be my top priority.”
She added, “I will sincerely prepare for both my journey as Jeongyeon of TWICE, whom you have loved, and the new challenges ahead as Yoo Jeongyeon, taking each step with sincerity.”
Jeongyeon debuted as a member of TWICE in 2015 and has been part of numerous hit songs, including “Like OOH-AHH,” “Cheer Up,” and “TT.”
All TWICE members previously renewed their contracts with JYP Entertainment in 2022. However, speculation about some members’ future agency moves, including Jihyo and Tzuyu, has emerged as another contract renewal period approaches as individual activities have gradually increased.
