
Kim Jin, a former editorial writer for The JoongAng, fell from the Incheon Bridge and passed away.
The former reporter fell into the sea near the main tower of the Incheon Bridge (towards Songdo) around 12:37 PM on April 9th, according to the Incheon Maritime Police on April 10th.
Upon receiving the report, the Incheon Maritime Police were dispatched and rescued the man just 17 minutes later, at approximately 12:52 PM. He was transported to a nearby hospital but was sadly pronounced dead.
Kim was well-known for his long career as a political reporter at The JoongAng. After leaving the newspaper in 2016, he became a YouTuber, hosting “Kim Jin’s Political Outlook” on the conservative-leaning YouTube channel Pen and Mic TV.
Meanwhile, the Incheon Bridge, which connects Yeongjong Island and Songdo International Business District, has seen a disturbing number of suicide incidents since its opening in 2009. Last year alone, 11 suicide cases were reported, resulting in nine deaths. In total, 86 people have taken their lives at the bridge since its opening.
