Lee Seung Gi has notified his agency BIG PLANET MADE Entertainment of his intent to terminate his exclusive contract.
Earlier reports revealed that Lee Seung Gi had notified the company of his decision at the end of March, citing issues like unpaid staff expenses and unsettled payments from BIG PLANET MADE.
Lee Seung Gi’s legal representative, Attorney Yoon Yong Seok from Hyunmyoung Law Office, issued an official statement, saying, “Lee Seung Gi notified the agency of his intent to terminate the exclusive contract at the end of March due to the agency’s breach of contract, and the contract was legally terminated.”
According to the statement, Lee Seung Gi had made efforts to maintain a trusting relationship despite various controversies surrounding the agency, the departure of other artists and the non-payment of some settlement amounts. However, payments for settlements had not been made since September of the previous year, and issues also arose regarding support for entertainment activities, as well as payment for on-site staff and external vendors.
In particular, Lee Seung Gi’s side claimed that they requested a review of the basic contract documents to confirm the transparency of the settlements, but this was denied without a justifiable reason. As a result, they notified the agency of the contract termination at the end of March, and the contract has now been fully terminated.
Lee Seung Gi’s side stated, “We will do our best to ensure that this situation does not cause harm to other related parties,” and added, “We will fulfill all scheduled commitments without disruption.” They further emphasized, “We will continue our activities with a sense of responsibility so as not to disappoint fans and on-site staff.”
BIG PLANET MADE, a subsidiary of One Hundred Label, has recently faced contract terminations from several artists, including VIVIZ, Lee Mu Jin, and BE’O, all of whom cited a breakdown of trust.
Additionally, it was revealed on March 19th that all nine members of THE BOYZ had filed a lawsuit against their agency, seeking contract termination.
With multiple artists leaving over similar issues, Lee Seung Gi’s contract termination notice has drawn attention to ongoing internal problems within the companies managed by CEO Cha Ga Won, including One Hundred Label and BIG PLANET MADE Entertainment.
