Yerin Ha, the breakout star of Bridgerton Season 4, recently visited Korea and spoke candidly about being part of the hit series.
The Korean Australian actress revealed that she first auditioned for the series through a self-tape. While grocery shopping, she received a call from her agent asking her to submit an additional video within 24 hours. She later completed a virtual acting test with her co-star Luke Thompson and learned a few days later that she had been cast as Sophie.
Yerin Ha also shared a personal connection to the Korean entertainment industry. She is the granddaughter of veteran actress Son Sook. “My grandma didn’t really give me any specific advice,” she said, adding that Son Sook had watched the entire season and sent her a photo afterward.
“She told me, ‘I’m proud of you. I love you.’ It was really touching,” Ha said. “But she also joked, ‘I saw some of the nude scenes… that was a little embarrassing.'”
The actress admitted she had her own worries before filming those moments. “I definitely felt pressure and had a lot of concerns before shooting those scenes,” she said, noting that she also thought about the differences in beauty standards between Korea and Western cultures.
However, she emphasized that the set made her feel safe. “There was someone specifically there to guide us during those scenes,” she explained. “Both the cast and crew made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe.”

Yerin Ha and Thompson, who plays the male lead in Season 4, have also drawn attention for their strong on-screen chemistry. Some fans have even expressed hopes that their relationship could extend off-screen. “I’ve seen those reactions too,” she said with a smile. “Maybe it’s because people want the story to come to life in reality.”
She added, “Luke is an actor I really respect, and I’m grateful to him as a friend. If people feel that way, I think it means the show was successful.”
Meanwhile, Bridgerton Season 4 recently sparked online debate during promotional activities when some viewers pointed out that Yerin Ha appeared less prominently featured in certain photos and videos compared to other cast members. The situation led to speculation about possible racial bias. “I did see those comments. But while I was on set, I never personally felt that anything was racially discriminatory,” Ha said. “Maybe some smaller details were missed (during promotions),” she said. “But I don’t think it was intentional or conscious.”
At the same time, she said she understands why some viewers interpreted the situation that way. “I can understand why people might have seen it like that,” she said. “I hope we can learn from moments like this together. I just hope the discussion does not turn into excessive criticism or hate.
