Lee Byung Hun had late-night TV roaring after a scene-stealing appearance on NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, where he shared behind-the-scenes stories from Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters and the film No Other Choice.
Introduced by host Seth Meyers as a “Golden Globe-nominated actor best known for Squid Game,” Lee immediately leaned into the moment with effortless English and self-aware humor. Explaining that he had flown straight in from Los Angeles, he joked, “I didn’t even have time to go to the hotel. I just brushed my teeth here. It’s okay. I’m still handsome,” drawing big laughs from the audience.
Lee also revealed the origin of one of his long-running nicknames. “When I work on a film, I ask a lot of questions about the story and the character,” he said. “That’s the only way I can deliver it properly to the audience.” That habit earned him a nickname from director Park Chan Wook. “He calls me ‘Mr. Nag,’” Lee explained. “In Korean, that’s ‘Kkochi Kkochi.’” The word roughly translates to someone who keeps poking and prodding with questions.
The actor also opened up about what drew him to voice the Demon King Gwi-Ma in KPop Demon Hunters. “The first meeting was about four or five years ago,” he recalled. “I wasn’t sure if I should do it. Then I decided to say yes because of my kids.” Most of his previous work, he added, was too intense for children to watch.
That decision paid off at home. Lee shared that he recently watched the film with his 10-year-old son. “He asked, ‘Where are you, Dad?’ and I told him, ‘That fire you see? That’s me. I’m the Demon King,’” Lee recalled. At first, his son declared, “Then I won’t like the hunters. I’ll be on your side.” By the end of the movie, however, the verdict changed. “He said, ‘I can’t be on your side anymore.’”
