The stars of Netflix’s first major K-drama release of the year are already teasing a romance that goes beyond the script.
During a recent press conference in Seoul for the upcoming series Can This Love Be Translated?, lead actors Kim Seon Ho and Go Youn Jung, along with director Yoo Young Eun, opened up about their globetrotting production and the “lucky” signs they encountered along the way.
Billed as a swoon-worthy exploration of miscommunication, the series follows Joo Ho Jin (played by Kim Seon Ho), a brilliant multilingual interpreter who can translate almost anything—except the language of romance. He crosses paths with Cha Moo Hee (Go Youn Jung), a chaotic and beloved global superstar who is famously terrible at dating.
To capture the scale of the top star’s life, the production filmed across four countries: South Korea, Japan, Canada, and Italy. According to the cast, the grueling travel schedule is exactly what solidified their chemistry.
“There are so many memorable moments,” Go Youn Jung shared. “We filmed in Japan, then Canada, and finally Italy. I think we grew closer in Canada than we were in Japan, and by the time we got to Italy, we were even closer.”
The highlight of the shoot, however, happened off-camera in Canada. Go revealed a moment where reality seemed to mirror the show’s romantic atmosphere.
“After we finished filming a scene where our characters look at the aurora, I actually saw the real aurora borealis on my way home from work,” Go said with a smile. “I called Kim Seon Ho immediately to tell him.”
She described the incident as a good omen for the series: “It feels like a lucky project.”
Director Yoo Young Eun backed up the story, noting the rarity of the event. “The aurora is the most memorable moment for me, too. I actually saw it one more time before we wrapped in Canada. The local crew told us that seeing it twice is truly a miracle.”
Kim Seon Ho reflected on how the international shoot created a family-like dynamic on set.
“Working and living together abroad naturally forced us to become close,” Kim explained. “It wasn’t just about having colleagues to rely on. By the time we finished a location shoot, my heart would ache, and I’d feel a lump in my throat saying goodbye to the staff and director.”
He added, “We worked together, went home together, and ate together. It truly felt like family.”
Can This Love Be Translated? is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix this February.
