Netflix’s global phenomenon Squid Game has added yet another major trophy to its shelf, winning Best Foreign Language Series at the Critics Choice Awards, marking the show’s third win at the prestigious ceremony.
The award was announced on January 4th (local time) at the 31st Critics’ Choice Awards, held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. Squid Game beat out fellow nominees, including Acapulco and Last Samurai Standing, to take the top honor in the TV category.
The Critics’ Choice Awards are hosted by the Critics’ Choice Association, which represents more than 600 television and film critics and journalists across the U.S. and Canada. The annual ceremony recognizes standout achievements in both film and television.
Notably, the TV awards do not distinguish between seasons. Squid Game first made history at the 2022 Critics Choice Awards, becoming the first Korean drama to win Best Foreign Language Series. That same year, Lee Jung Jae took home Best Actor in a Drama Series, also a first for a Korean actor. The show won the same series award again last year with Season 2—making this its third overall Critics’ Choice victory.
Meanwhile, Park Chan Wook’s film No Other Choice was nominated for both Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film, though it did not win in the foreign-language category. That honor went to The Secret Agent. The Adapted Screenplay winner has yet to be announced.
Awards in several categories remain pending, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song, where KPop Demon Hunters and its track “Golden” are still in the running.
With this latest win, Squid Game once again proves it’s not just a pop-culture juggernaut—but a lasting awards-season force.
