After Lee Jong Suk’s departure and reports that the project had stalled, the drama I’m Against My Romance (literal title) is officially moving forward with Kim Jae Won as its new male lead.

According to an OSEN report on December 19th, Kim Jae Won recently received the script for I’m Against My Romance and has decided to join the project after a positive review.

The romance drama centers on former lovers who reunite, blurring the line between a familiar continuation of love and the beginning of something entirely new. It tells the story of a man and woman who come face-to-face again with their first love—and the complicated emotions that follow.

The project previously drew attention with director Lee Eung Bok (Goblin, Mr. Sunshine, Sweet Home, Dear X) attached and Lee Jong Suk and Go Min Si named as leads. However, reports of Lee Jong Suk’s exit due to scheduling conflicts sparked speculation that the drama had been scrapped. At the time, production company Studio Dragon denied the rumors, confirming only that Lee Jong Suk would not be participating.

Now, the drama is undergoing a full reset. In addition to casting Kim Jae Won as the new male lead, the production is searching for a new female lead and a new director following Lee Eung Bok’s departure.

Kim Jae Won has been steadily building momentum this year with emotionally nuanced performances in Netflix’s The Trauma Code, JTBC’s The Tale of Lady Ok, and Netflix’s You and Everything Else. He is also set to appear next in TVING’s Yumi’s Cells Season 3 and recently held his first solo fan meeting.

I’m Against My Romance is slated to air on tvN and will be produced by Studio Dragon.
