
Park Chan Wook’s latest film No Other Choice has landed on the Oscars International Feature Film shortlist, giving the acclaimed director fresh momentum in the awards race. Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters also made waves, with its song “Golden” advancing to the Best Original Song shortlist.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the shortlists for 12 categories on the 16th, ahead of the 98th Academy Awards.
Fifteen films were selected for the International Feature Film shortlist from submissions representing 86 countries and regions. Alongside No Other Choice are titles including Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident from France, Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value from Norway, Kleber Mendonça Filho’s The Secret Agent from Brazil, Lee Sang Il’s Kokuho from Japan, and The Voice of Hind Rajab from Tunisia.
In the Best Original Song category, “Golden” joins shortlisted tracks from Wicked: For Good, Avatar: Fire and Ash, and Sinners.
Final Oscar nominations will be announced January 22nd, with the ceremony set for March 15th.
No Other Choice has already gained traction this season, earning three Golden Globe nominations including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Non-English Language Film, and Best Actor for Lee Byung Hun. KPop Demon Hunters also picked up Golden Globe nods for Best Animated Feature, Best Original Song, and Cinematic and Box Office Achievement, and both titles continue to post strong showings across the critics’ awards circuit.
