Earlier this year, OMEGA X member Kevin (Park Jin Woo) had a very successful debut through the now must-watch series My Bias Is Showing, a BL romance that follows the story of a pure but naive fan, Na Ae Jun, falling in love with his favorite idol Choi Si Yeol, played by Kim Kang Min.
Fans of BL praised the drama for not only its charming storyline but also for its handsome lead actors and believable interactions between the two. Ranging from both sweet romance to hot and tense scenes, their blossoming relationship has a grip on viewers right from the start.
Now, after the success of the series, OMEGA X member Kevin met with ZAPZEE to sit and discuss just what it was like to film a BL series, make his acting debut, and also share the preparation that went into playing a crucial role in Korea. Q. Congratulations on your official acting debut. How does it feel to be considered an actor?
Kevin: I’ve always wanted to try acting, so I think it’s only the beginning!
Q. What is something new you learned while preparing to be an actor?
Kevin: I think I learned more about the scale of my emotions. I learned how to express myself even more as an individual based on that scale.
Q. What was it like filming a BL? Did you always have an interest in BL manhwa or TV series?
Kevin: I knew about the genre of BL before filming the drama. This opportunity was very valuable to me since it marked my debut as an actor, and I would have had the same mindset no matter what the genre was.
Q. If you could describe your character with one word, what would it be and why?
Kevin: I’d choose “pureness” because I recently realized how the feeling of pure love and affection for someone can work as a great motivation in life.
Q. Please share any funny stories or interesting moments from filming My Bias is Showing.
Kevin: Seeing new and various filming techniques was very interesting to me! Actually, every scene was fun to film, but looking back, I think I laughed the most when I shared scenes with Hong Jun, who played the role of Choi Si Yeol’s idol manager Kyu Sung in the drama.
Q. What do you think about the LGBTQIA+ Community in Korea? Has this drama and experience changed your perspective on gay people?
Kevin: I’ve always had the same thought, even before the drama, that everyone is special, not different. We’re living in a world with so many other people from different backgrounds, so there is no need to think something is wrong or weird, or that you’d have to change in any way to fit in somewhere.
Q. Are there any K-Dramas or Gay dramas you watched to prepare for your roles?
Kevin: I didn’t necessarily feel the need to watch more dramas to study acting. Instead, I take every new experience, including watching other great works, as a learning opportunity and develop inspiration quite naturally.
After sharing motivational words about Kevin’s experience playing the role of a gay character in a conservative country, the heart-warming BL star had one final message for fans of him and the heartfelt series.
Kevin: Since it was my acting debut, I know I lacked in some areas and still have a lot more to learn. I would love to showcase more various sides of myself, and thanks to my fans who always cheer for me no matter what, I can have more courage to take on new challenges! Thank you.
