The star-studded cast of Disney Plus’s The Remarried Empress just got even more dramatic.
Lee Jun Hyuk and Kang Hanna are set to reunite for a special appearance as a royal married couple with a very complicated past.
Lee Jun Hyuk will play Emperor Wharton III, the older brother of the male lead, Prince Heinley (played by Lee Jong Suk). Kang Hanna will star as his wife, Empress Krista, according to reports on November 12th.
Krista isn’t just Whartin’s wife; she’s also the childhood friend and first love of his younger brother, Heinley. She ended up in a political marriage with Wharton III instead. This marks a reunion for Lee Jun Hyuk and Kang Hanna, who previously starred together in the 2019 drama Designated Survivor: 60 Days.
Based on the globally popular webtoon with 2.7 billion views, The Remarried Empress follows the story of Empress Navier (Shin Mina) of the Eastern Empire. When her husband, Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji Hoon), takes a former slave named Rashta (Lee Se Young) as his concubine and demands a divorce, Navier shocks the world. Instead of accepting her fate, she immediately requests permission to remarry the prince of the Western Empire, Heinley (Lee Jong Suk).
The series is in good hands, directed by Jo Soo Won of I Can Hear Your Voice and Pinocchio and written by the team behind The Uncanny Counter. Filming is scheduled to wrap this month, with the series slated for release on Disney Plus next year.
