Disney Plus has confirmed the exclusive release of The Remarried Empress next year. The announcement was accompanied by a full cast reveal and photos from last month’s script reading on June 19th.
Based on the hit web novel and webtoon, The Remarried Empress follows Navier, the Empress of the Eastern Empire, whose life is upended when the Emperor suddenly delivers divorce papers. She responds by requesting permission to marry the crown prince of the Western Kingdom. Tensions rise further when a runaway slave enters the palace as the Emperor’s concubine. The original story has racked up over 2.6 billion views globally as of December last year and has been translated into 10 languages.
The series is helmed by director Jo Soo Won, known for I Can Hear Your Voice, Pinocchio and Still 17, with The Uncanny Counter writers Yeo Ji Na and Hyun Choong Yeol penning the script.
Shin Mina stars as Empress Navier, a woman renowned for her intelligence and elegance. After being cast aside by the Emperor, she causes a stir by seeking remarriage with the Western prince. “I feel both nervous and excited because since the original is already so beloved,” Shin said. “Please look forward to the beautiful visuals that will come to life in this adaptation.”
Ju Ji Hoon plays Sovieshu, Navier’s husband and Emperor of the Eastern Empire. A symbol of absolute power, he breaks his lifelong promise to never take a concubine and finds himself caught between two women. “I’m thrilled to be part of such a powerful universe,” he shared. “I feel a strong sense of responsibility. I think this series will offer a fresh hit of dopamine to viewers.”

Lee Jong Suk takes on the role of Heinrey, the crown prince and heir to the Western Kingdom. Mysterious and surrounded by rumors, he approaches Navier with a hidden agenda—but finds himself genuinely falling for her. “ I was beyond excited when I heard The Remarried Empress was being adapted into live action,” he said. “I believe it’s going to be a truly fun and unique show.”
Lee Se Young plays Rashta, a beautiful runaway slave. After being rescued by the Emperor during a hunting trip, she sets her sights on becoming Empress, carefully nurturing her ambitions. “I’m happy to be playing Rashta,” Lee said. “With its blend of fantasy and romance, I think the show will have plenty of engaging moments for viewers.”

The supporting cast includes Lee Bong Ryun as Eliza, the head lady-in-waiting of the Western Palace; Chae Tae Hoon as McKenna, Heinrey’s secretary; Park Ho San as Lotteshu, Rashta’s former master; Jung Young Joo as Albani, Sovieshu’s aunt by marriage who adopts Rashta in a bid to restore her family’s power; and Nam Yoon Ho as Rant, Sovieshu’s loyal secretary.
