TVING’s original series Dear X is about to unveil a completely new side of Kim Yoo Jung.
Set to premiere on November 6th, Dear X follows Baek Ah Jin (Kim Yoo Jung), a woman who hides behind a mask of beauty and charm to claw her way from hell to the top—and the cruel, tragic stories of the “X’s” she destroys along the way. The series captures both her descent into corruption and the doomed love of Yoon Jun Seo (Kim Young Dae), the man who chooses to walk through hell to protect her.
Directed by Sweet Home, Mr. Sunshine, Goblin, and Descendants of the Sun’s legendary hitmaker Lee Eung Bok alongside Park So Hyun, known for her refined and emotionally charged direction, Dear X made its first splash at the 30th Busan International Film Festival to an enthusiastic response.
The newly released stills showcase Baek Ah Jin’s haunting transformation—from a lonely, hollow-eyed student drenched in rain to a glamorous top star basking under dazzling spotlights and public adoration. Her rise from misery to fame hints at a dark, hard-fought reinvention.
Kim Yoo talked about playing Baek Ah Jin, a woman who wears a mask to survive. “This project has so many layered characters and stories that it felt like a new creative challenge,” Kim said. “I had fears about the theme and genre, but I trusted the directors, the crew, and the cast.”
Describing her character, she added, “Baek Ah Jin is someone who hides behind a mask, doing whatever it takes to get what she wants. Her nature and environment shaped her that way—which can make her come across as only intense, even provocative.” The actress continued, “That’s why instead of trying to add more layers, I focused on emptying myself, on channeling her sense of emptiness. To capture Baek Ah Jin’s unpredictable emotions and actions, I tried to feel that hollowness from within.”
With Kim Yoo Jung’s daring transformation and a powerhouse creative team, Dear X is already shaping up to be one of this fall’s most anticipated thrillers. The show premieres November 6th exclusively on TVING.
