Kim Woo Bin is taking the field—this time as a high school baseball coach.
Industry sources confirmed on October 2nd that the actor will headline tvN’s upcoming drama Gift (literal title). Kim will play Jung Min Yong, a former professional team coach who is now the manager of a high school squad.
Described as a pitching coach brimming with warmth and idealism, Jung is almost impossibly kindhearted—too kind, even. He never lets a single player slip through the cracks, and when he has free time, he’s the type to gather the younger athletes for a barbecue. For him, results take a backseat to effort and growth, and he spends sleepless nights analyzing games and writing reports, fully devoted to his team.
Gift is based on the popular Kakao Webtoon of the same name. The story follows a pro-team coach who gains extraordinary abilities after an accident and takes on the daunting task of leading the underdog Dukcheon High baseball team. What unfolds is a season full of heat, grit, and tear-jerking triumphs.
This marks Woo Bin’s first foray into the sports drama genre since his debut. With Korea currently in the grip of a full-blown baseball craze, he’s set to carry that energy from the stadiums to the screen.
The actor also has Netflix’s Genie, Make a Wish slated for release tomorrow. Filming for Gift will kick off early next year.
