Netflix’s animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters has officially overthrown the Squid Game series to become the streaming service’s most-watched title of all time, across all movies and series.

Netflix reported that K-Pop Demon Hunters’ cumulative viewership reached 266 million as of September 3. Two weeks earlier, it ranked third, trailing Squid Game Season 1 (265.2 million views) and Wednesday Season 1 (252.1 million views). After adding views from the week of August 25th to 31st, the film surpassed both titles, becoming Netflix’s most-watched title ever across films and series.

Netflix recently launched a sing-along version of the film, which displays lyrics on screen so viewers can sing along to songs like “Golden,” “Soda Pop,” and “Your Idol.” This feature has encouraged repeated viewings, contributing to its ongoing popularity.

The success of the film extends to music charts as well. Its soundtrack song, “Golden,” has now topped Billboard’s Hot 100 for a total of three weeks. In a September 2 chart preview, Billboard noted that “Golden”’s surge came after large-scale theatrical screenings of the sing-along version on August 23rd to 24th and the Netflix release on August 25.

Ian Eisendrath, executive music producer for K-Pop Demon Hunters, said that it’s exciting for people to enjoy the songs in two ways. Some viewers fall in love with the film first and then discover the songs, which helps make them hits. Others hear the songs first and are then drawn to watch the film, boosting its popularity as well.
