Ahn Bo Hyun opened up about the casting switch that preceded his role in the upcoming film Pretty Crazy.
The film follows an unemployed young man named Gil Goo (Ahn Bo Hyun) who takes on a bizarre gig: watching over Seon Ji (YoonA), a woman who turns into a demon every night at dawn.
At a press event held ahead of the premiere, Ahn shared his thoughts on seeing the film for the first time—two years after wrapping production. “Even now, I still feel the lingering emotions,” he said. “It’s been two years since filming ended, and it already feels like a memory. There were physically tough scenes, but seeing how everything came together so lovely makes me really happy. This is my first lead role in a feature film, so seeing our poster up feels surreal and deeply meaningful.”
The actor added, “More than feeling the burden, I’m just excited. I didn’t feel weighed down by box office expectations either. Since it’s my first time, I didn’t think too much about break-even points or profits. I just want people to enjoy it—there are sweet and healing moments in the film.”
Known for his strong, masculine roles in series like My Name and Military Prosecutor Doberman, Ahn’s softer, clumsier character in Pretty Crazy marks a notable shift.
The actor explained, “I’ve played a lot of intense characters, but I wasn’t worried about this feeling out of place. The script was fun, and I wanted to try it. I am curious to see how the audience reacts though. If people have a set image of me, maybe this film will change that a bit.”
One thing to note is that Ahn wasn’t the first actor cast in the role. The project originally bore the title 2 O’Clock Date, and Kim Seon Ho had been set to star before stepping down amid controversy.
“I actually found out about the casting change later, through my agency,” Ahn revealed. “I’ve always been a fan of the production company, Film R&K, and I really liked the script when they sent it over. I wanted to take on something different from my usual roles. Only after I joined did I hear about the previous casting. But it wasn’t something that weighed on me—I was focused on showing something new.”
Pretty Crazy is set to hit theaters on August 13th.
