Netflix has officially confirmed production of its new original series Variety, and unveiled a high-profile casting lineup led by Son Ye Jin and Jo Yu Ri.

Variety dives deep into the glitzy yet cutthroat world of K-pop. At the heart of the story is Sae Eun, the powerhouse CEO behind the industry’s top idol group, and Seung Hee, an obsessive fan who will do whatever it takes to get closer to her favorite member.

The series marks the return of director Kim Yong Hoon, whose previous work on Netflix’s Mask Girl and the feature film Beasts Clawing at Straws earned both critical and audience acclaim. Once again serving as both director and writer, Kim is expected to bring his signature edge to the psychologically charged story set in the heart of the K-pop machine.

Taking on the role of Sae Eun is none other than Son Ye Jin. In Variety, she plays a fiercely strategic and coldly pragmatic executive who will do whatever it takes—including ruthless decisions—to secure a contract renewal with the idol group she helped build from the ground up.

Jo Yu Ri, who gained acting recognition through her roles in the last two seasons of Squid Game, will portray Seung Hee, a fan whose devotion crosses the line into obsession. Willing to follow her “bias” anywhere and by any means necessary, Seung Hee embodies a dangerous blend of admiration and twisted attachment.

Rounding out the cast is a mix of industry veterans and fresh faces, all playing characters entangled in the web between Sae Eun and Seung Hee, promising an intense, ensemble-driven drama.

Variety will be available exclusively on Netflix.
