Yang Hyun Suk, founder and executive producer of YG Entertainment, has officially received a suspended prison sentence from the Supreme Court in connection with a long-running drug case involving former iKON member B.I.

On Friday, the Supreme Court’s First Division upheld a previous ruling, finalizing Yang’s sentence of six months in prison, suspended for one year, for charges including coercion.

The case stems back to August 2016, when Han Seo Hee—a former trainee—was detained on drug charges and subsequently informed police that rapper B.I had attempted to purchase illegal drugs. Yang Hyun Suk was accused of attempting to silence Han to prevent the allegations against B.I from going public.

Prosecutors initially charged Yang under the aggravated retaliation provision of the law, citing intimidation. However, the court found him not guilty on those grounds during the first trial. On appeal, prosecutors added coercing a witness as an alternate charge. This led to a guilty verdict in the second trial, which has now been upheld by the highest court.

While Yang avoids immediate prison time due to the suspended sentence, the conviction marks a significant legal and reputational moment for both the executive and YG Entertainment.
