Ahn Jae Hong brought laughter as he shared behind-the-scenes stories about his shocking kiss scene with Yoo Ah In in the film Hi-FIVE, along with audience reactions from the preview.
The comic-action film follows five strangers who gain bizarre superpowers after organ transplants—and what happens when others come hunting for those powers. Ahn Jae Hong plays Ji Sung, a struggling writer who receives a lung transplant and ends up with oxygen-tank-level lung capacity. Yoo Ah In stars as Ki Dong, who gains the ability to control electricity and Wi-Fi with a snap of his fingers after getting a cornea transplant.
After all the bickering between the two, nothing prepared the audience for the sudden lip-lock between Ji Sung and Ki Dong—a moment that brought both shock and bursts of laughter.
When reporters asked about the kiss scene, Ahn Jae Hong repeatedly emphasized it was “CPR,” causing laughter on set.
He went on to explain, “Ji Sung is actually an openly selfish person who only thinks about himself. And because of that, he struggles in the process of forming the HI-FIVE team,” adding, that it was a scene where “Ji Sung acts out of selflessness for the first time.”
When asked if he did anything extra to prepare for the scene, he laughed and replied, “I just stuck to the script.” He added, “I remember we got it in one take. We stayed focused and shot it fast. I didn’t rehearse it separately—I tried to concentrate more on the character’s emotional state.”
“When that moment played, people screamed,” Ahn said, laughing, recalling how the audience reacted at the screening. “I think some even clapped. I didn’t expect such loud cheers.”
Ahn also spoke about working with Yoo Ah In, saying, “He felt like the character Ki Dong. On set, it wasn’t so much about having long talks—I just thought our HI-FIVE characters had such personalities.”
He continued to reflect on the character dynamics, noting, “Ji Sung and Ki Dong are total opposites, but they do have something in common: they’re both unemployed. Despite having the same common ground, they’re characters who’ve walked very different paths, so whenever they meet, they bicker and clash. The scenes where they sharpen their edges and refuse to acknowledge each other seemed to highlight the fun even more.”
Hi-FIVE opens in theaters on the 30th.
