Park Jin Young is ready to show off his action hero transformation in the upcoming superhero comedy HI-FIVE.

At Monday’s press screening held at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall, the actor joined director Kang Hyoung Cheol and co-stars Lee Jae In, Ahn Jae Hong, Ra Mi Ran, Kim Hee Won, and Oh Jung Se to discuss their latest project.

“I’m so happy that this film I absolutely love can finally be shown to audiences,” Park said, beaming about the movie.

Although he didn’t share many scenes with the rest of the ensemble, Park noted, “I do wish I’d had more scenes with my co-stars, but watching the final cut, I saw how they were on another level.”

The actor then shared how meticulously the action scenes were choreographed. “There were a lot of action sequences, but the director gave precise directions for every scene—where I should fly, what kind of object would come flying in. I just trusted him and acted accordingly.”

Park, whose character required some shirtless scenes, opened up about his physical transformation for the role. “The script described it as a ‘beast-like’ body. Since my character suddenly gains strength, I wondered what kind of body he should have. Rather than just bulking up, I focused on making my muscles pop more by cutting down on food,” he explained.

He also revealed a special preparation method for playing a character who transforms from elderly to young: veteran actor Shin Gu personally read his lines for him. “He allowed me to record it, so I practiced while listening to it. At some point, the director said my speech pattern and voice were locked in, so we should try to tone it back on set. We kept discussing and finding that middle ground.”

Lastly, Park couldn’t contain his enthusiasm. “This is the kind of film I’d gladly show off. It’s getting hot every day, and I think we all need something cool and refreshing to watch. ‘HI-FIVE’ is exactly that kind of movie.”

HI-FIVE follows five people who accidentally gain different superpowers through organ transplants and must face off against those who covet their abilities. The comic action hits theaters on May 30th.
