Korean entertainment’s biggest names are continuing their tradition of generous giving to mark Children’s Day.
IU commemorated the May 5th holiday by donating 150 million KRW (approximately $108,000) under the combined name “IUAENA” (name combining IU and her fandom). The substantial contribution will support foster youth preparing for independence and improve living environments for children with disabilities. The donation was distributed with 62 million KRW going to Eden I-Ville and 90 million KRW to Hansarang Village and Hansarang Disabled Youth Center.
IU has consistently practiced philanthropy under the IUAENA banner on significant dates including her debut anniversary, birthday, and year-end holidays. Her charitable work earned her recognition as the youngest person named to Forbes’ “Asia’s 2019 Heroes Of Philanthropy.”
BTS member Jin also marked Children’s Day with a 100 million KRW ($72,000) donation to the Children’s Hospital at Seoul Asan Medical Center. “My heart goes out whenever I see children battling illness,” Jin stated. “I decided to make this modest donation in hopes that sick children can quickly regain their health and play happily again.”
The hospital plans to use Jin’s contribution to improve pediatric care and medical facilities for young patients.
Jo In Sung, who has maintained a regular relationship with an orphanage in the Guangdong district, prepared sneakers as gifts for the children this Children’s Day. The actor joined “manna,” a charitable group of entertainment industry professionals that has been donating footwear to children every Children’s Day and Christmas.
Beyond sneakers, Jo In Sung provides monthly snack funds for the orphanage children. His support includes treats like tteokbokki, hot dogs, pizza, and birthday cakes for celebrating children. Last year, the actor made headlines when he invited approximately 30 people—including orphanage teens, youth with rare diseases and physical disabilities, their families, and social workers—to a special screening of his film Smugglers.
