Lee Jun Young opened up about a wild real-life incident that sounds straight out of an action drama—except it really happened.
On the May 1st episode of the KBS show Problem Child in House, Lee appeared alongside his Pump Up the Healthy Love co-star Jeong Eun Ji to promote their current upcoming drama.
During the episode, Lee revealed that he once pursued a drunk driver for an hour before successfully apprehending them. “It wasn’t because I have an especially strong sense of duty,” he explained. “Initially, I was going to contact the police, but when they asked if I could follow the driver, that’s what I did.”
Kim Jong Kook related to the story, saying, “When you report something like this, they ask ‘Where are you now?'” When Kim Sook asked if he had experience with similar situations, Kim Jong Kook confirmed he had. This prompted Joo Woo Jae to joke, “You probably caught them by just running after them on foot,” to which Kim Jong Kook quipped, “Just for the exercise,” drawing laughs from everyone.
Lee notably disclosed that he declined a Good Citizen Award that was offered following the incident. “At the time, I really felt I hadn’t done anything special,” he admitted candidly. “If anything, I thought it seemed uncool.”
When Song Eun Yi inquired about other similar incidents, Lee shared another story: “I was having drinks with a friend at an outdoor bar when a car hit my friend. It wasn’t a serious collision—my friend fell when their clothes got caught on the side mirror, but the driver just took off. I ran after the car and stopped it. The driver claimed they didn’t realize what happened.”
Was he always the type that can’t stand injustice? Lee responded with thoughtfulness, explaining, “When I was younger, I was fearless. I didn’t think about what might happen next—my body would just react like, ‘That’s wrong!'”
